Alfred, the 10th and last child of John Barrand and Nancy Ann Routeledge was born in 1833, and baptised on the 20th October, 1833 in St. Giles, London. Alfred is shown on the 1841 and also on the 1851 census. In 1851 he is employed as a labourer and living with John Barrand and Nancy Routledge, his parents at 25, Little Earl Street, Seven Dials. Alfred died on the 28th July, 1854 at the age of 21 at 7, Duke Street, St. Giles, at the family home, of tuberculosis. Death Ref: St. Giles 1854 - 3rd Qtr (1b - 254) Alfred’s occupation was as a box maker, and it is very probable that he worked with his father John as, although John was a Egg Merchant up until 1852, the next reference to John's occupation is as a packing case maker in 1861.
